Dear all,
I would like to keep my water system non electric both to keep it simple and save electricity.
I would like to have filtered water to drink and for that I bought a "Nature Pure" filter (Sea Gull) and then I tried first a Whales gusher galley, then a Tip toe then even a Baby, and the best(the Tip toe) is far from wonderfull and this is with a brand new filter which will clog up slowly and obviously get worse.(I checked that it woks fine with no filter)
I spoke to the pump manufacturer, he has no solution, all the pumps out flow pressure is set by the power of their spring. I spoke to the filter manufacturer and his solution is to refund me. Nice but not what I want.
Does anybody know of a pump suitable for drinking water in which the out flow pressure is set directly by the foot pressure and not a spring, like a simple piston pump where the up stoke sucks the water in and the down stroke pushes it out.
Thanks in advance.

Maurice.

Hi !

I'm not sure I understand the problem is. I have a whale galley pump (foot operated) that produces terrific pressure on the 'downstroke' (dependant on how hard you press!) but less on the 'upstroke' which is dependant on the return spring. I use an Aqua Filter in the system and have had no problems with the flow/pressure of water.

I don't know the the filter system that you have, but might it be that there is a blockage somewhere in the pipework that is preventing a full flow? These filters are designed to be used with 'normal' installations so I find it hard to believe that extra high pressure pumps should be necessary.

Hope you find the problem.

It must be down to the filter it seff as the flow is good without it.
Are you happy with your filter's quality ?as it sounds like I will have to change mine.
Thanks for your help.

On my last boat I fitted an inline filter. It did drop the flow rate a little but not as much as you are experiencing. I did think about putting 2 in parallel. This will cure the problem as the flow rate will drop through each one to half and the pressure will reduce by the square law.

This sounds good.
can you tel me what your filter is and if it is any good in your opinion.
I've been tinkering with my plumbing today (no smirk please) and it's definitely the filter that's restricting the flow so if I can't find a better pump it will have to go.
Cheers..

The filter I used on my last boat was an inline type. I cant remember what the manufacturer was as it was a few years ago.

My current filter is a Jabsco. It is a cartridge type that spins on a bit like a Lucas fuel filter. I have no problem with this filter but I have a preesurised water system.
