Hello

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the water from my tank.
Some sort of pump etc .
Many thanks

Almost there!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You need water puppy pump or similar.
Connect it to the fuel line which feeds the primary fuel filter. This saves the contaminated fule being pulled through the filters. Switch on the pump and discharge the fuel/ water mixture into some old 5 gal drums - use the see thru type. Wait until you see nice red diesel instead of pink/ white.
Change fuel filters
Job Done
Good luck

It depends how much you've got in there. I once went to refill the water tank on one of my previous boats and put the hose in one of the diesel fillers instead and it was a good couple of minutes before I realised my mistake
Having consulted a diesel fitter, he just said run the engine normally but drain the primary filter (which on my boat had a water trap anyway) regularly. I did this and the engine ran normally without any ill effects

Hello
Thanks for that, I hve drained the water trap several times , she runs then just cuts out. I have no idea how much water is in there, its thought that ithas accumalated over the two years its been in the yard.

I think I will go the way Alastair said and drain it down. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You can buy a bottle of dry fuel from Halfords, pour it in the tank and it mixes the water with the fuel then all runs OK but with reduced performance and steam untill the water is burnt off. Only tried it with petrol though and would depend how much water. It does state it is for diesel as well. I ended up being towed in when I had this problem, then I tried "dry Fuel".
When I was told about this I thought It was a joke but look at this site, my engine started after three or four tries (7.4l v8 Petrol)

not a good idea to use a water disperser in a diesel engine, because when you stop the water can come back out of the fuel (requires time - depending on how large the water droplets are) and start to corrode injectors and fuel pumps.

Also seen warrenties voided like this, so use at your own peril.

If you can get access thro the top of your tank - via fuel guage ?? - then rig a syphon and syphon water from the bottom - or pump it out if "uphill".

The reason I suggested the water finding paste is to verify that there really is a substantial amount of water in the bottom of the tank. I know there are all sorts of old wives tales about water build up due to condensation if the tank is not kept full etc but in my experience this is rarely a significant build up. Dipping the tank with WFP will verify if there is a real water problem and if so then sucking it out with a vacuum pump like THESE will pretty much clear it. Your fuel uptakes should be a little above the bottom of the tank anyway so a little residual water is not usually a problem.

In short.....are you sure this really is a water problem?

The way my old boat burnt fuel it was no problem, good point though! Did not know that. By the way the boat used about £60 an hour and did 50Mph, the clue is in the name it was "Goblin Juice"
