water alarm, bilge

Hi, I've just joined a vivacity owners club via the net (www.vivacity.verycool.at) and they are advertising a water alarm for 7.99. My question is (as this is my first boat) is this alarm useful? Is it a good price?

Bought one from Maplins.Mine didnt cost that much if my memory is correct.
