What can anyone tell me about the Warsash one design, am considering a purchase with the view to long term cruising and single-handing. What problem areas are there if anyone knows, where might I find some independant reviews. Any help would be appreciated.

I have encounterd the very same problem. The WOD appears to be little known and so I started a Website to try and generate some intertest and feed back between owners. I have owned one for over a year but most of that time she has been out of the water being renovated.

The website is www.warsash-one-design.co.uk. If you visit www.google.com and input warsash one design, you will see other entries for example on preloved.

The basics of the boat are, Long keel, narrow body, good to windward and quite exilarating sailing. Can be sailed single handed, almost every one I have spoken to does. Why? I suppose its the accomodation, Max headroom 4ft 8ins, but it does have four berths, with the forpeak suitable for children or small adults.

Very good cockpit size and storage in rear lazarette although some boats with an outboard engine as opposed to an inboard use up some of this space.

My one concern is that the cockpit sole is, at least on my boat, below the water line.
Cockpit drainage is 6 inches above the floor. I dont know if that is a common feature of these boats. Water doesnt drain out unless the boat is heeled over and there is always a residue that would need to be hand bailed. I am planning to install a manual bilge pump within reach of the helm when she is back in the water if this proves to be a problem.

I think that if you can get one for under 6k and it does not need lots of work doing on it, you will get a very seaworthy boat at a very good price. I know of two boats that have undertaken significant journeys, one across the Atlantic which is currently for sale on the YBW website and one that was sailed UK to New Zealand and then NZ to Tasmania. The guy who owns that one does vouch for there seaworthiness. What more can you ask.
