Hi all of you this is my very first post- it's nice to be part of the forum at last as I have been reading it for months.
You are talking about something that I really know about. When I came to Australia first I did not earn much money and had always had a love of the sea so I went scrounging around all the old boats of any description that no-one else wanted to look at let alone put them back on the water. I started off with just a hull of an old motor boat and within two months my daughter and I had her back on the water, complete with motor, for the grand sum of $600 which was about 300 pounds at that time. Since then, I have bought a 40ft steel yacht for $8000 which is about 3000 pounds and that was a good boat in going condition. Since that one I have bought a 52ft fibreglass yacht, same price plus a 33ft John Pugh steel yacht for $2000 and also a 60ft ferro for $5000. All these prices I have quoted are after the boats have been completed. I have now bought back my Alan Payne steel yacht which has been refurbished and is the grand old age of 65 years. All these boats have sailed extensively around the east coast of Australia and the Solomon Islands and the concrete one has done three cirumnavigations so you can be lucky sometimes I suppose. I still get most of my parts out of the marina bins as we have a lot of American visitors and they throw away almost brand new gear - they must have a lot of money.
Anyway, all the best and keep looking - you might get lucky.
