Looking to buy a yacht - anyone got anything suitable?

Just had a Westerly Fulmar surveyed and it failed on its hull. Looking for a Fulmar, Tempest, Sadler 32 or 34 or Contessa in good condition. Cash available £25-30 for the right boat. Needs to be suitable for short handed (2 people) sailing so preferably self tailing winches, cockpit reefing and furling headsail. Will sail around the UK coast and off the Northern European coast this summer.

If anyone has anything suitable or knows of a suitable boat for a honeymoon please send a private posting - thanks
Stephen

Nicholson 32

Try a Nic32. We bought one last year as a wedding present for ourselves and are totally delighted with her. The N32 has a strong owners assoc. which provides technical advice organises events etc. The assoc. website usually has one or two for sale.

Good luck!

Hi Stephen,
If you are interested in a 32, and you like Contessas, have a look at Centurion 32s. We've just bought one (which admittedly needed a lot of work doing to it) but she's lovely! Also, they come in just at a bit less than Contessas.
Good luck with whatever you go for & enjoy!!

Re: Nicholson 32

Thanks
Have heard good reports about Nics and sailed on a 345.

Trying to keep a focus on a few models but maybe the search will need to widen.
Cheers

My commiserations, I too had a lesser set back today in my search for a yacht. A well speced Rival 32 had been sitting on the market for months with a broker at 30k. May 2002 yachting mag had same boat at 23K (private sale) and it sold within days!

I think you would be lucky to find a Fulmar or Sadler 34 under 30k that is not a project boat in many respects.

Maybe we should team up for a yacht fraction? We could buy a great boat with our combined fund and you would actually go sailing on your honeymoon rather than learn how marine engines work or hull drying times.

A good Nich 32 is indeed a lovely yacht. Trouble is with a production run of 20 years and a myriad of design variations it is very difficult for "outsiders" to spot a good'un without a year of pre-purchase research.

There is (or was up until a while ago) a Contessa 32 at Dickies of Bangor. It has been refurbished and looks good. Priced at about £25k now I think. Confirm that your PM settings need looking at.

Well done - 'Bedouin' is also a Centurion 32; much more liveable with, and cheaper, than a Contessa.

Moody

You'll get a good Mk 2 M33 (79 - 82), or an aft cockpit 33S, for about 30k. Lots about. Fulmars and Sadlers are all a bit newer and your price range is off the bottom end of "good" for both (esp the Sadler 34). The Moody seems to fare a lot better than average in terms of structure (dead simple solid glass hull, solid deck too in the Mk2) and osmosis, and has a bombproof rig. Mk 1s cost less but the quality is much more variable (73-4 vintage can be v.dodgy): the Mk 3, the '333', gets Fulmar prices.

As a Nic 32 owner I agree that Jonjo has apoint re myraid of design changes but the information on the Nic 32 website and the knowledge of helpful owners will allow relatively quick research and a year is not needed.
Have a look at http://vancouver-webpages.com/N32/

Stephen,

I have also been looking around the market for a boat of this type. Have you looked at http://www.boatmatch.com/ they have a few that may be right up your street.
I have spoken to them and they seem to be quite proactive so give them a call.
