I'm in the same boat Sulley (Pardon the Pun!). My tank is 272 Litres and as I'm moored at Wallingford that means 13 trips to the station with my 20l can! I'd prefer to pay the extra 10p a Litre rather than go through all the hassle!

272litres is 60 gallons, you shouldn't be using more than 1gallon per hour so thats a range of 300 miles at the speed limit, the Thames is only 125miles long from Teddington to Lechlade. So worth buying a few jerry cans and you will only fill up once or twice a year, when I had a petrol boat I bought 6 x 20litre cans at car boot sales for about a fiver each, it is hassle but the waterside pumps are so infrequent and expensive its really the only option, certainly at this end of river.

Petrol was one of the major deciding reasons to moor at Windsor. Easily accesable plus we get a discount of the advertised price to bring it down to something reasonable.

I have a single petrol engine as well Maestro. There is no petrol available where we are near Marlow so each time I 'pop' to the marina I normally take a can of juice with me and then when I have a cruise where I know there is petrol on the river I fill up and top up with cans when just going out for the day if needed.

It worked well for us last season, just need a little more planning if you are away for a week or more.

Cheers Chris, I'm obviously doing something wrong! My boat is a Petrol twin engine BMW and last year I filled up twice (currently have 1/2 tank left) and I certanly didn't do the lenght and breadth of the Thames over three times! However, after filling up fr the second time (I expected it to last all season) I started cruising more efficiently, ie not using both engines all the time and not leaving the engine on when my 12 v system died when I was moored with no elec!

I might invest in a sail this year!
Great news about Redline, cheers for the update.
