VP280 leg reversing problem

One of my 280 legs is kicking up in reverse - so I guess I need to adjust the 'pawl' - can this be done whilst it is still in the water? - and has anyone got any advise they can give me about the job. I have checked the retaining bar is still in place - so it must be adjustment I think. Thanks. IanC

Is the spring still there, thats the smaller one, if not thats your problem.

I had this problem a decade ago with a petrol Sealine with a 280. From memory there is a latch mechanism and it depends on the free swivalling of the assembly. Through lack of grease mine was near solid and needed a stripdown and a freeup, no parts required (and replace the gaiters while you're at it) I don't remember any adjustment!!
Enjoy the season, reversing on one engine only and do the job with the annual maintenence would be my advice.
