Volvo raw water pump

The raw water pump on my Volvo TAMD41P engine has started leaking. Does anyone have experience of tackling this. For example, do I need to drain the pump before removing it from the engine block and is it simply a matter of replacing the O-ring between pump and block? Despite the leak the pump is working well and engine temperature is normal.

Remove. Strip and replace both seals , if shaft is scored fit complete overhaul kit .

Thanks Paul. Are the seals you mention common to the pumps on all the TAMD41 engines or was the specification changed on later engines?

Found this job to be reasonably straight forward myself, it even went right first time!!!
The pump will drain when you remove the cover.
When you disconnect the inlet pipe make sure it is plugged or stays above the water level outside (if you are afloat).

you may be able to get a recon kit from ASAP supplies which should be cheaper than a volvo dealer.
