Sounds like the turbo to me, furthermore if the engine stopped unexpectedly (net in prop) it is possible for turbo to be blown due to lack of oil at high temperature.
On all our volvo engined plant it is a requirement to run at idle for at least 30 seconds before shut down to protect the turbo. This is not so well advertised on boats as perhaps it should be but it may be that there are no situations where you would intentionally stop an engine from speed.
