In the last few decades have never knowingly purchased any oil/air or fuel filter in a " Volvo Penta " box.
Any reputable motor factor to be found on any decent trading estate specialising in the commercial vehicle trade will be able to offer a selection of good quality branded ie, Fleetguard etc filters at very attractive prices, also lubricating oils and similar sundries.
All of my boats have been powered by engines which were not in the first flush of youth, some with several thousand hours.
Have yet to suffer any failures or loss of oil pressures due to using aftermarket oil or filters.
If you feel that the premium prices demanded by VP give you some reassurance regards quality, no problems.

Fleetguard, Mann and Delphi are my makes of choice.. Baldwin, Fram and similar are ok but possibly more Championship than Premiere League. Inline can supply them but I suspect they make more profit out of Baldwin... all IMHO

As long as you use a proven source and reference no reason to pay engine manufacturers tax
However don’t just rely upon dimensions

Can anybody please suggest a replacement air filter for a VP D1-30?
I am happy to cut open the plastic box and reseal it after the implant surgery...

Is it necessary to replace it? I ask because the oily sponge air filter on my VP 2003 is always squeaky clean. That's designed to be cleaned - officially you're supposed to wash it in clean diesel and then squeeze as much out as possible - but it's always so clean that I've never actually bothered! And as the air is drawn from the engine compartment and then via the cockpit locker, it's hard to see where any dirt would come from. It's not like a car that's drawing in air full of road dirt; the air supply for our engines is pretty clean to start with.

I was going to buy a 50mm K&N Filter but I found one with a larger filter area, waiting for it to arrive from UK.

Parts4engines.co.uk are good value. I buy my filters from there. The MD2030 filters I bought were boxed Perkins which is the actual engine manufacturer. Although I doubt Perkins manufacture filters and these will be likely made by the same people who make the Penta ones.
