Ok, realised that the engine number is stated in the link to dbmarine. Any idea of the cost of that too ?

I paid £470 for the DB Marine conversion in 2011. If I'd had good access to the back of the engine it would have been easy to fit but I didn't. Getting everything lined up and the plastic shock absorbers in place took a bit of fiddling but I was doing it on my own in a very confined space.

I don't know about labour costs for a mechanic. I think ease of engine access would be a major factor. This is a gearbox problem so shaft drives also suffer from it as well.

When you say 'leak.' do you mean that water is leaking past the saildrive seal into the boat or is water getting past the propeller shaft into the oil? The latter is another common problem but fairly easily repaired. When I took my leg into a marine engineer to have this done I think it was about £80. I did this whilst the leg was out for the spline modification.

Well, according to the survey possibly both, but definatley from the seal into the hull, theres corrosion around the metal plate.

So worst case scenario with mod, seal kit and maybe some help maybe a thousand pounds to put right ?

Depends on the boat, particularly access to the rear of the unit, but £1k is the going rate to replace the diaphragm. Rust on the ring is not necessarily an indication of a leak from outside but more likely to be bilge water or leak from the seawater coolant circuit.

Yes, good point, it is actually mentioned that there is a water leak that looks like its been coming from around the water pump area so might might explain it. I'm going to take a look at the boat soon so i'll be able to have a closer examination.

Still, i bet the seal hasn't been replaced in the last 7 years so still something to bear in mind.
