Volvo Oil Pressure

What should the oil pressure reading be for a Volvo Penta 431 when running at normal temperature ?

Mine is showing 75 psi and I would have thought that is very high

Might not be much help, but my Mercruisers run at about 60 psi at cruise revs.

Volvo figures for 431 from volvo workshop manual oil pressure at idle hot engine =0.7 kp/cm2=9.95psi.
oil pressure at WOT hot engine=2.5-3.16 kp/cm2=35.55/44.95 psi.

My 431 runs at 60-70 when cold and 40-60 when hot.

Do you have the right oil in?

I'll check the oil is correct and over the winter i think i'll replace the sender / gauge

My 41's run at about 80/90 psi. Hardly think you have a problem.

It reads a bit higher than you expect, so what.

The time to act is when it suddenly reads lower than normal.

The data tontol quotes from the manual is the minimum spec pressure. ie if lower than this you have a problem. As others have said, your 75psi is fine. Remeber 75psi is very low oil pressure in the world of oil pumps and nothing at all to worry about. The oil pump in your passerelle or outboard engine trim/tilt and/or other assorted hydraulics will generate more like 2-3000psi
