I see on another thread that something called Ford Green is the same as Volvo green - is it as simple as that? My recollection is that there as many different ford greens as stars in the sky!

Did the other thread not qualify by stating the make of paint ?

Perhaps it was this one http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-p...ort-ford-green-engine-enamel-paint-500ml.html

Or "Ford Green" from this range http://www.frost.co.uk/por15-engine-enamel-paint-473ml.html

You could always mix up a reasonable match with Hammerite

Years ago, I bought a little tin of touch-up Volvo green paint from VP dealer Volspec. Maybe they, or other VP dealers, offer something like it today?

I have an un-opened tin of the official Volvo paint in my garage - had it for years.
Have no idea if it is ok, but you can have it if you area anywhere near Tolpuddle, Dorset.
PM Me. and I will dig it out and have a look.

You can go to your local paint factor and get some "not nearly quite the same" colour put into a can or spray.
Usually works out just as expensive in small amounts but for larger quantities ie more than a litre, you can save lot over VP prices.
For tightwads, brushing is by far the cheaper and most effective for those with less than immaculate engines. A brush is very handy for getting the paint under the chrusty crud/cooling pipes/wiring sleeves and onto some actual metal.

If you had an isolated rusty parch on an engine what would you do to prep for a localised in-situ re-spray. I assume you'd wire brush the flaking paint and rust off (perhaps with a dremel). Neutralise the rust then prime and re-spray. Is the right approach?

Yes although you need to degrease first for which i have used spray Gunk from car spares shop washed off with water in a fine mist plant sprayer (this keeps the amount of water to a minimum) then dry.
