I noticed on Sunday that the top cover on one of my 290 legs has gone. Any ideas where I may get a used one from. I've tried coastal rides but they only have new and at £134 + vat I thought I may try and get a used one.

Do you mean the vertical cover that hides the gearlinkage etc, if its the top cover your introuble as the bearing is under there! pm moody he had one but im not sure if he took it back to coastal rides, I will have a look up this end for you.

If its fell off have you had the drives worked on by anyone recently as they should either hook in at the top or have 2 screws that hold it on, either way it should not have fallen off.

I would have thought a Sessa Oyster would have newer drives than 290's. What year is it?

More like DP-D or DP-E maybe? The cover isn't the same as the 290, although the lower units are very similar.

Yes they are 290 Dp's 2002 vintage. The cover covers the gear linkage but is realy only cosmetic and to stop the barnicles growing on the linkage as it's not a watertight cover and usually full of water anyway, coastal rides confirmed this.

It's held on by two screws

The legs were serviced at the beginning of last season so can't blame anyone for not tightening the screws enough.

Arrharr. I suppose you could call it that, but my outdrive service manual drops the "290" label sometime after the DP-A.

So long as you say "DP-D", you should get the right part, which is 3857148.
Plus the screws to hold it on 854661 and 872027.
Plus two rubber rings for the screws: 2 of 925052.

Bloody annoying aint it, I had one fall off a 290 drive too a few years back. I think I paid about £80 for another from Coastal Rides.

Good luck.

There are some knock-off copies of the cover available form AquaPart or somesuch bought one for my 280 recently and paid about £45.00
You could try Watercraft Services on 01872 863777 (Part no BP4206 £40 +vat) or IVSS on 01303 870010

Its non-structural and they do fall off. One of mine did and I was running without it all season until time for haul-out. I got one from a local engineering company that happened to have a few 290 scrappers knocking about. Can't remember exactly how much I paid but it was sub £40 anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. Watercraft didn't do the cover for the DP-D drive. Keypart do original Volvo for 95.97 + vat so have ordered one from them.

Thanks again to all.

Kevin.
