Hi,
Go to http://www.fram.com/home/index.html where you will find a cross fererence service. Punch in your Volvo part number and you will get the fram equivalent part number. If you are near Great Yarmouth Annisbrook Continental on the Harfreys Industrial estate ate stockists. Armed with the fram number you will find most suppliers have a cross reference book and will able to find an equivalent.
Regards,
Eddie

OK. What about VETUS fuel filter/water-separater cartridges?. They seem to have (I assume deliberately) adopted a totaly non-standard attachment thread. The price is so ridiculous you're better off replacing the unit with a CAV. I have approached VETUS at the shows, but the answer is essentially along the lines 'what the market will....'

Eddie,

Thanks for the info, I entered the Volvo part No 8343378 it came up with LF3335, you quoted LF3615 which is right?
Owner of Volvo 2002, note this filter fits a large range of Marine Volvo's to many to list here.
Thanks again,
Trevor

Keypart Prices????? ??

Without referring back to my posting to the Westerly Owners board recently, I priced up the following set of filters: diesel pre-filter / water separator (lucas type); diesel secondary (engine); oil filter, all to fit a Volvo 2002 - as follows.

Volvo agent (Lymington Yacht Haven) over £25

Keyparts just under £20

FRAM filters from local auto-factors about £8.00 (yep - for all three). The diesel pre-filter and the oil filter were £1.40 each, the secondary fuel filter was the expensive one at around a fiver!

I have used Keyparts previously and they supplied equivalent filters (not Volvo) at 2 to 3 times the price I found these at.

Any proper auto-factors will have a variety of cross reference books to put you straight.

I posted the other day on replacement oil filters for my Yanmar 2GM20 and was referred to the Fleetguard site. I got the two numbers for oil and fuel filters and then went round the wholesalers who sell diesel filters. All could cross reference to Fleetguard nos. but Crossland and Coopers did not make an equivalent to the Fleetguard parts. I did not come across a Fram distributer. I then thought I had got lucky finding a Fleetguard distributer. He did not stock the oil filter and had never ordered one in to sell. He had supplied a trade customer some time ago with the diesel filter and the price was £6.80 + vat = £8. I then went to the local marina which has recently become a Yanmar dealer. The diesel filter was £6.36 (incl.VAT). The oil filter was £5.90. I must have spent 4 hours on this money-saving scheme, but I should have looked up the last time I bought the Yanmar filters because the unit cost is not that high and at least I am certain the filters are the best ones possible for the engine.
The alternator belt was £11.56 and water pump belt £10.39 but I had reached Saturday lunchtime and the wholesalers had closed, besides I would have a round trip to Nottingham of some 30+ miles and 2hours so I paid up.
I notice the alternator belt is 50% wider than my existing belt so I have now decided to only buy the Yanmar parts in future and to scrimp on cost in some other area.

Re: Keypart Prices????? ??

Diesel Pre-filter (Lucas 096 HDF296) - FRAM C1191PL

Diesel Secondary Filter (Bosch 1457434051) - FRAM4186

Oil Filter - FRAM PH966B
(This has a longer body than the original Volvo filter but simply sticks out further between the alternator / water pump belt, and probably has a greater filter area too).

I'm not convinced that FRAM is a particularly GOOD brand, but it is certainly not a bad one. My Volvo 2002 has not missed a beat for the past 3 years using them.
