I'm off to ViarOundlereggio, Northants, tomorrow, to visit the fairline factory. So if anyone needs anything let me know. Eg I could pilfer a spare engine or hull (state which model please), or ask a "how is this screwed together?" question that you need to know to fix your boat, or how do you empty the holding tank? I'll post some pics if anything interesting

An ice maker for me please John - mine's on the blink again and since it's not working properly, young Sam has decided to keep his Ben & Jerry's Phish Food ice cream in there - little sod !

You serious! Brass!

Axshully Fairline have only just woken up to chrome. For the last few years the boats' insides have all had gold door furniture, lightswitches, hinges and those cupboard door knobs, and silver bathroom stuff and hand rails and galley gear. The gold+silver mix looked a right mess.

I complained when looking at a boat a few months ago and it turns out (not from my complaint, they were fijnally gonna do it anyway) that for the 2004 model year all the boat internals will be chrome, no gold at all. It's about time.

But a brass finish rail, yuk! I'll pick you one up, or a can of silver paint

No problem pauline. One of those plastic ones, about 6inch long and an inch thick (fnarr) with say 12 x ice cube-moulds, that should be ok? I'll get one and mail it in a jiffy bag.

see if you can slip out with a nice targa 38 under your jacket for me...../forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Could do with knowing how the side / front rails are fixed to the deck, they are loosing off in a couple of places. Could do with knowing exactly where the fixing points are and if they are just nuts on threaded bars etc.

Make Holiday (number 593) Mk 3, built 1984.

Cheers

Re: excellent

I'd like some quick-craze perspex for the companionway door, a special NON marinised de dietrich glass barbecue with extra ridges so it's dead difficult to clean and configured so it doesn't work after the first few times and the switch knob comes off, some dirt cheap small-font stickie-on vinyl lettering that would look good on a tender (you may need to look on the back of the big squadrons for this) PLUS a large bag of their special sawdust-'n-screws mix for my empty bilges please. Ooh, and two quids worth of carpet please (ie 6 sq metres).

That's dangerously near this decidedly boring part of UK- I'm in Peterborough. How is it that builders of some of the bigger boats seem so keen on being in landlocked and dull parts of the UK? Sealine in Kidderminster. Fairlind in Oundle. Can't all be due to rates! Than they have to rely on the likes of M Jackson Esq to move their prized products to somewhere they can float / sea trial etc.

Good luck with A605

Yup, they are all in these crazy locations, for historic reasons. Fairline used to make river boats at Oundle marina and as they expanded there was plenty of labour in Corby when steel went out of fashion. So far, their products can still be moved by road, at night. Models up to the Sq 58 drive south to Chichester, the bigger ones go more slowly to Ipswich

I will look forward to A605. Lots of speed cameras round there i hear.

Lots of speed cameras- frustratingly slow in all other areas (where there are no cameras, but as dangerous) as per many other posts on here.
I use Oundle marina as a local Chandlers- they can access some of the Fairline sourced parts I believe.
I have a couple of patients who make the woodwork / joinery there- knocks my Sealine into a cocked hat for finish!

Re: excellent

Just cuz you have cheapo sticky on vinyl lettering doesn't mean everyone does! In fact I note that F'line now use a rather posh embossed lettering....

Look!

At least this stuff won't fade!

Re: ho hum

um, weren't talking about me, but whatever. My vinyl lettering avoids otherwise sharp edges around the swimming platform. It's in a font and colour of my choosing. It didn't cost a miserly extra line on the bill as with many brit builders which just leaves a nasty feeling, and it matches the towels which they had embroidered in the same font without being asked.

Your right, those Fairline letters won't fade. But look, its exactly where a fender would be, just above the rubbing strip. Good thinking eh? NOT
