A few pics of stuff. I was going to write a list but pics are quicker.

First off is obligatory boaty junk under the chart table..

There are honestly some lifejackets. Look! But usually, boaty peoplebring their own lucky lifejacket. Only bring 1, mind! There are also 7 solid ones in the foredeck storage...

Courtesy flags. All a bit useless for this trip i believe.

Relevant charts. We are ok to azores at least, moe to follow with grand thieving of charts from t'othr boat. Seems the previous owner has photocopied some charts which is rathr out of order. However, i'm not chucking them away now...

Relevant books discovered onboard. One of them is "Understanding the universe" which should cover most things. The Reeds 2007 covers Bermuda

Now, outside, stand up tall and you can see a plan view of where we are. The bay is actually fairly empty compared with the several hundreds there for the regatta.

On the western side of the island is Orient Bay with outlying little island in the foreground...and beyond in distance is Anguilla, which we have to go around to get north. Ideal i suppose is go to east of that eastern point. Depnds on how horrid and rough it is beating up a perhaps-suddenly-shallow channel with 3000 miles fetch...

Closer pic of anguilla eastern tip shows a gap, which I understand might easily be sailable, not looked at the charts.

The other option if a bit too upwindish eastabout Anguilla is go west around it, altho there are reefs beyond thataway, like this one, so best stay awake and look at charts ded carefully first...

Finally, a quick check of pies. 24 in total, only a couple of dents.

does that mean you've NOT got a lifejacket each? if you have got one each, have they got a harness?

if not, will air france carry a life jacket with air cylinder?

correct - four people and three lifejackets with harnesses. New boat to me - and I'd always take my own jacket anyway so it's not in the least bit awkward that the borrowed jacket is in fact useless....

If airlines won't take mushroom soup i'm not going to ask about lifejackets. Unscrew the cylinder to avoid accidental inflation, checkem in luggage and it's just another few grams of Co2.

Having found Budgetmarine, one way or another there will be lifejackets aplenty.

Note that for the seriously-chucking-yerself-seawards there are solid never-deflating solid jackets.

Virtual briefing probably safer than the previous briefing in the public house. I asked Parahandy what was discussed and he was rather vague and sketchy about the whole evening.
I have come across a copy of 'Heavy Weather Tactics Using Sea Anchors and Drogues' by the improbably named Earl Hinz so will give it a quick read.

My wife says, your boat is untidy, and with all those Fray Bentos, you should be able to create your own wind to cross the Atlantic!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I say, thanks for the pics. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
