I have done a search on this and not found anything in the recent past. So I hope it's not too naive a question! In my many years of sailing in the Solent, I have never actually been on the water, on that day, near to the race. This year we want to anchor somewhere near the Needles and then use a small RIB to get pictures. Obviously we will keep well out of the way on both counts. So the question is, where can one drop the hook which is absolutely not on a possible course?
For example I see that the tides will be West going South of the island early on, so some yachts might try tucking in close at Freshwater dependent on the wind. Where are the safest spots/bays to drop the hook and keep out of the way?

We do want to be on the water for this - and yes we have considered being ashore! Any useful info gratefully received.

Alum bay would be good. Never seen anyone go deep in there during the race, the cliffs really mess with the wind.

Or go into Keyhaven (or anchor off) and take pics as the fleet bunches at Hurst.

Then hi-tail it through the Solent to catch the fleet off Ryde.

Just the kind of info I needed, many thanks.
Yes the plan is to go back up the Solent for later in the day.
