We are currently sat outside the marine on the walk ashore pontoons, have to say if there was electric we would not bother to go inside the marine, the motorboats get a poor deal here, there have been cruisers over 48ft having to raft up three out, not a problem but some of these had very small children with them (baby's) so getting ashore not ideal, then there are the older people, that struggle to clamber over,
on the inside berths you have very small sailing boats 6m plus taking up a mooring that a 50 ft boat would fit in,and none of them rafted up because they are to small for the larger sailing boats to raft along side, I understand that sailing boats in general draw more water, and that is the reason for them being in the inside , but I think they could come up with a better system, were by small boats sail or power should be asked to raft or at least move up,and if you are only staying for one night and not wanting electric, then use the walk ashore berths outside, this post is not a rant on my behalf as we have had a side on berth for six nights and chose to go outside the marine so we are not restricted by the cill, just my observation while I sit here in the sun enjoying a beer :)

It must partly be who arrives when, unless you dont mind coming back from a day out and wonder where your boat now is.
Similarly, are you suggesting boats must now be reberthed for people with babies etc ? Surely they take their chances along with everyone else (and they may have been very happy to be there at all in high season !) Can't say I am buying into a daily reshuffle for someone elses convenience. Dont you pop along to HM and say, any chance of moving me if something comes up please, and he says sure, the cill is open at 2 pm.. err well I dont want to have to waste my day waiting to see who leaves....well, guess you stay where you are then ;)

As I have said before If I was a visitor to Guernsey ( I live there) I would choose the Swan pontoons in the pool, there is already fresh water, You can now walk ashore as the pontoon is connected and if there was electric provided on the pontoon, I would prefer that to being in the Victoria Marina.

Its quieter, less traffic noise and 24hour access and egress for going to Herm or Sark for the day etc.

Hi
We have been in the inner harbour for two nights, we are 47ft and have had no problem, agree about the outer pontoons about access etc but the wash from the condor etc does not make a pleasant stay, we had to wait for an hour before the cill and was a bit rolly, I have to say they were a bit quiet this time, outer pontoons need lecky if some are staying longer, however there was a sail boat in the inner harbour that must have slept at 45 o as keel on ground a good way to see how much your mates like you sleeping light that :-)
In jersey now and have to say that the marina staff could not have been more accommodating,
Nathan

But it,s not a first come situation ,as motor boats are not allowed to more on the Centre
inside pontoons, only around the outside edges, where the water level is shallow, we watched time after time motorboats coming in and being told to raft rather than fill empty space,s on the inside, even though cill height would not allow yachts in, never suggested that someone move, your boat, but cannot see a problem being asked to move along to fill vacant spaces ,
Just my view ,on how we saw it, agree that this is the height of the season ,but just think that they could make better use of the limited space,s, there are finger pontoon,s for smaller boats ,these were often empty,
Still our favourite place, and look forward to returning ,and shall make more use of the swan pontoons as this allows , us to get out and about more, ref wash ,and noise , depends what you are used to, after all we are on boats on the sea :)

Ah.. didn't know there were empty berths in your example.
Well, maybe ask the HM why !! I guess it is because people will raft, but get peeved if they are expected to move berth so a saily can get in ?

It was a bit of a strange attitude of the marina staff. We were the T47 and the V42 that I think came in along side you with children, we then managed to move onto a berth alongside the pontoon so we could get on and off the boats ok, but the marina staff didn't seem to be too forthcoming which was disappointing.

We then moved on Wednesday to Jersey and were greeted by very helpful staff, enjoying a very pleasant few days. Due to weather forecasts for this coming week, we took the option of a hop back across the channel today and now enjoying a great berth in Poole Quay Boat Haven for a few days again with very friendly accommodating staff.

Yes that was us, have to confess until this year we have always thought Victoria marine more accommodating ,last time we were in Jersey we stayed four nights and were asked to move four times :) I expect it,s down to temp summer employees ,

Hi Piers
We cycled up to Beaucette ,and had a drink there, have to say very nice but a bit out the way for us, also there did not seem to be many free moorings. ,May be they were fully booked when we called in, there were a couple of very large boats on the pontoons port side as you enter.

We must have followed you around, we saw you in gurnsey and jersey, then called intro poole for a bit of water before the bridges and you were there ! Not stalking you - honest :-))

Poole marina staff have upped their game recently we find them really helpfull and they always seem to be able to squeeze us in.

Maybe Guernsey were just having an off day, I have found them helpful in the past, though I haven't been since the walk ashore arrived. Like Illusion (nice new T47?) Jersey and Poole have also been fine, in fact poor marinas have been an exception in my experience.

Hi Merlyn. Yes, Beaucette is a bit 'out of the way' but that's why the marina is so peaceful and quiet, unlike the busyness and rafting and noise of St Peter Port. Mind you, it's only an 8 minute walk from Beaucette to the bus stop and a ten minute ride to St Peter Port.

I see you cycled to Beaucette - the harbour office has bikes for hire as well!

As you point out, there have been times this season when the marina has been full, but it's rare that visitors can't be found places. Did you try calling ahead to see if a space was available?

Ah yes our shadow T47!! We were also laughing and commenting that we seemed to be stalking each other.
We're still in Poole, but haven't seen you for a couple of days (perhaps your cruise has finished?).
We start heading back to the Solent tomorrow. Hope you all had an enjoyable cruise, despite the weather being a little bit iffy, guessing you crossed back from Jersey on Sunday as well, given the forecast?

Regards

Phil (Breeze)
