I have an icom m31 h/h about 3 years and have only used it 5-6 times, and I think the battery is kaput. is it worth buying a new battery or buy a new radio. your thoughts please
Can you plug it into a mains charger and try then? or check the battery voltage and make up a new battery pack out of cheap batteries first, to see if it works? Its probably the battery but often the battery packs are just a bunch of AA rechargables soldered/connected together so you can make up your own to see if its working.
I've also got an M31 Icom, had it for many years. Unclip the battery pack from the back of it and the panel on the front of the pack comes out easily. You will then see the six batteries. If you replace these with Duracell or similar you will need to move the switch at the bottom of the radio on the back where it switches between (I think) Ni.Ca. and normal power. If you replace the original rechargeable cells with new rechargeable do not be tempted to go to a much bigger capacity battery as the charger will still only charge at the rate it is designed to so the time to recharge could become two days or more with the large capacity cells available today.
