I'm sure some of the forum techno gadgeteer know about these endoscope cameras.

I can report though fir average sailor, this is really useful. We got a woven plastic builders type bag around an outside leg. This device taped to the end of a deck brush vastly simplified its removal.

Yep, brilliant piece of kit for home or boat - no more trying to squint in places you can't get a light to, guessing at what's going on or getting in the water when you don't need to (y)

We bought a 10 meter one several years ago, great for send up a mast, inside engines, behind moulded interiors. Have lent it to quite a few boat owners who also found it more than useful.

I'm a little suspicious of anything which requires you to have an app to view the output: it's probably built-in obsolesce . This one has a screen. I'm generally happy with it but the downside is the "semi rigid" "stalk" does require being taped to something rigid to progress in a straight line anywhere.

That was a difficult concept to express without opening up the possibility of comment by the smutty minded

We have had the DEPSTECH type for many years and no issues / concerns using the app. Links to either phone or tablet, giving much bigger viewing screen.
As others have said, once tried one becomes essential tool - used to resolve folding propellor issue (able to film while operating), check anodes, re thread halyards through under deck organiser, re thread in boom outhaul system; and at home find pipe work under floors, look down back of kitchen units to find wiring etc.

It's a very useful type of tool, but I made the mistake of buying a cheap one (Clarke(?) brand from, IIRC, Machine Mart).

Only the other day was I yet again cursing and swearing at it. Pathetic quality image and size screen; dodgy connection between 'wand' and hand-held unit frequently fails at the most inconvenient moment; the latter not designed to stand on or attach to anything but a wide, flat stable bench (how many of those to hand when you've your head in the engine compartment or bilges, poor illumination; I could go on). It only works to the extent that it deters me from buying another of a better brand.

Exactly.
I have bought two. The most frustrating gizmos I've ever owned. Perhaps my smartphone is just not up to the job.
