VERL 27

Phillipa 27

Used to have a Phillipa 27 which I loved dearly. Sailed well, very forgiving. Unfortunately mine was a home build and had been done badly so after 6 seasons with me (built 1972) she became an early example of an uncontrolled canting keel!

Her new owner has repaired her and she is back in the water - his tentative plans are to sail to the Canaries and (eventually) on to Australia.

Hi,
I have just recently bought a Philipa 27 & have noticed the similarities with the Verl 27 in design.
What was the name of your Philipa 27? if you don't mind my asking as I know that mine previously had been repaired and so it may be the same boat lol.

Verl owners association

Hi Jim & welcome
the 900 were built in Melbourn Cambs by Vervale Ltd they had a very good work force made up of mainly of Ex Offshore Yachts employees.
i would strongly suggest you remove your email address. we use the PM ( private message system here, click on user name then nav the drop down box)

If you form an owners' association, try to avoid the initials VOA. The Varne Owners' Association website required extra security - it was hacked during bouts of Yankee sabre-rattling, presumably mistaken for "Voice of America".

Rob.

Aha! Sorry, I am paranoid about clicking on links, thanks to too many emails offering me things, you know, bigger things. 27th of April looks good if I am in the water by then. Something to look forward to!

More so since it looks like my square rigging holiday isn't going to happen this year.

I don´t know exactly how many were built but I would guess around 200. I know that Nick Hatteridge (the builder) was delivering a lot out across the North Sea to Germany and Holland etc.

We used to keep our Verl 27 on the Clyde/ West Coast during the 80´s and partly in the 90´s first in Troon marina and then later in Tarbert. I remember there were 2 Verl 27´s in Troon (one of them in the Sailing Club in Troon) the other in the marina. Another Verl 27 used to be in Largs marina owned by George Hutchison called "Sirene". I raced on this one a few times and last time I saw this boat it was in Rothesay Harbour just after they installed the pontoons in 1999 (i think). There was another Verl 27 in Tarbert called "Fyne Girl" which had a Trapper mast on it to gain a bit within it´s handicap !

All in I would say there were about 7 Verl 27´s on the Clyde during the 90´s that I actually saw. Here on Mallorca right now there is another Verl 27 ! It´s moored in Porto Colom and owned by a German guy.
Hi Narcer, have sent you a PM unrelated to this thread.

Cheers, Brian.

I have a Verl 27. I am on the Clyde!

Mine is called Cloud Howe and I have lovingly maintained her for 11 years now.

I am aware of one other with the "Cloud" reference, but can't remember exactly what (edited to say "Cloud Nine"). It may be based in Troon. The Cloud verls I believed originated from Aberdeen.

I've been meaning to get to Troon for ages and see the other Verls.

I came on here to search for information on appropriate Gelcoat. Cloud Howe did not go in this year. I had saw the long range weather....!

So as ever I have a rush upon me to undertake some small gelcoat repairs before the end of the season.

If interested I could provide a proper website and forum for Verl users; I'm not a big fan of yahoo groups.
