Vendee Globe and Alex Thomson / Hugo Boss

.......makes me think of Samuel Goldwyn's famous remark "The harder I work, the luckier I get".

Alex deserves any good luck. When he is unlucky, he never seems to whine about it.
Beat me to it, but I was going to quote Gary Player - the harder I practice the luckier I get.

As Flaming says, they put a lot of effort in before the race.

Alternatively - AT worked extremely hard to get funding and create an innovative fast boat; showed maturity and experience in throttling back in the first few days to minimise damage; carefully studied the weather forecast to choose a better routing than key competitors; was sensibly cautious at the start to avoid being over the line and getting a 5 hour OCS penalty.

I am sure we all have total respect and admiration for all of them , both pre race and certainly when out there ?

they dont half talk funny these frogs ,,, what this tak tak tak stuff ? ( mais je ne parle pas le francais !:( )

Clac clac clac is something of a catchphrase of Le Cam's. It's what he calls his video camera, and indeed his videos.

French people often say clac or tac when they press buttons on a screen, or they're working their way through a process. I think in le Cam's case it was his struggles with his camera on a previous Vendée Globe, pressing the buttons "Clac, clac, clac" , which went down a storm with the viewing public, such that his videos tend to be called a clac clac clac, and he so named his camera too.

As to his speech, Le Cam can be quite slangy in what he says, so I can see that he would be hard for a non fluent French speaker to understand;

BTW, anyone else doing the virtual race?
Yes I joined it on Sunday ..they give you a mid fleet start point if you weren’t in from the beginning ...otherwise they’re would be lots of charals !
it would be fun to set up a scuttlebut group if someone knows how

it’s curiously addictive

I’m about to make a course change to navigate my way through the middle of the Cape Verdes and find myself checking every few minutes whether I’m at my turn point !

I think you'll find yourself too far east as the hole in the doldrums develops and heads west

All the new boats, yes. Anything built before the OD mast came into being can use other masts. Sam Davies for example has a different mast.
During yesterday's 12.30 show they discussed the recent dismasting and AT was unaware and very surprised. After commiserating he then was slightly worried as he knew he had the same stick up top.

Maybe you can keep an eye out for those migrants whose boat blew up (y)

Yes. It's also considered to be the current weak point of the boat. It was specified for the static righting moment of the pre foilers, so the max cant keel + water ballast. RM derived from the foils massively exceeds this so skippers have to be very careful. All the top boats have load sensors all over the rig to monitor and hopefully prevent failure.

TY , do you know what “ tac tac “ is using ?
Assuming you mean Jean Le Cam...

His boat was built for the 2008/9 Vendee and the OD mast was introduced in 2013, so I'd assume that he has a non OD mast. He may have taken the decision to re-rig with an OD though, I don't know.

Yes , Thank you ?

Gonna be a PITA if they all have to sail to the limitations of their masts , Bit like colin mcrae driving to the limits of his tyres ?
