Having nearly completed a west coating for my wash boards, my thoughts turn to which varnish to put on top.

Is it pretty well the same choice/preferances as if I had never put a coating on them, or are some more appropriate than others?

I expect that you are aware that you need to varnish to give UV protection. Therefore any good-quality yacht varnish would be appropriate. However there is little point in using a tung oil based varnish on top of epoxy so use a polyurethane-based one.

As a matter of interest, why not a tung oil based?

I have a tin of Goldspar in the cupboard, and a tin of this:
Sikkens UV

So sounds like either is suitable.

[/ QUOTE ]In my opinion the tung oil would not work well on a non-absorbent surface, I think that it would take a long time to harden. Others may have a different opinion.

I don't know about the Goldspar but the Sikkens looks to be the business.

West (Gougeon Brothers) recommend a "spar" varnish, that is one for coating wooden masts. Important that it has a UV inhibitor. International Goldspar fits this, but other manufacturers will have equivalents.
