I'm about to commit to buying a 1978 Varne 27 and I wondered if there are any past/present owners here who could point out if there are any common issues that I should look out for? Cheers!

I have indeed got a Varne 27 1978. Maybe it's the one.
I have had mine up for sale for a while although I'm reluctant to take such a loss as looks likely. She is a very well found boat, with a cracking engine and new standing rigging.
They sail very well indeed, I've been in West Scotland for quite a few years and she coped very well there. I can't think of any issues I would point out. Mine has a roller boom, which I have never used but it doesn't get in the way. Although she sails beautifully, it's quite hard single handed and I'm very old now so it tires me out. I may well put her back on the market again next season.
