Off to Spain next week
Will be lifting and washing the boat and then off to Valencia during the following week for the Grand Prix.

I see Valencia as the "poor man's" Monaco but we are hoping that the atmosphere will be as fun.

We are planning to travel in company with friends from Sant Carles.
Valencia is less than 100 miles away but we will probably be stopping at one of the little harbours on the way (Las Fuentes is an old haunt of ours so the kids want to stop there overnight).

The intention is arrive in Valencia on Wednesday 20th and go straight to our berth.

This is the one we've booked.

I will try and get a report uploaded whilst we are there but we will definately be taking lots of photos during our stay.

I know it's a bit tatty but we plan to dress the boat with lots of red white and blue - including a large union flag draped over the top of our blue bimini so you should be able to pick us out from any aerial photos on the TV.

Hurricane,

I am a big F1 fan, so really interested in how you enjoy the event. I fear this will be the last Valencia GP, as it is not the best supported, as the 2nd Spanish GP, and Bernie has a queue of rich backers enticing him outside of Europe.

You should get a really good feel for the event on your berth. Not sure how much you will see, so keep the TV monitor close to hand.

You have done Valencia before haven't you?

We did it ( I think 2 years ago) but on a Seabourn cruise ship. So "To the left of 1" in terms of your location. Too far to walk to restaurants etc .. a pita.

Enjoy ..

It's a BBC covered one so we will be patching the BBC coverage onto the flybridge displays. Not sure yet which service to use - probably the multivision feed that goes out throughout Europe on 11954H which I'm sure I can get on the Raymarine domes. However during the Monaco F1 this feed only carried the Driver Tracker. I have a portable large dish so maybe able to get BBC 1 proper if they do this again. Audio isnt a problem as that will come out of the F/B speakers.

Anyway, we have stand tickets booked for the practice day but we will be watching from the boat on the qualifier and race days. The idea is that we will know what is going on in the race from the BBC comentary but we should get the whole atmosphere from the boat at track side.

Yes, we've been to Valencia before but not during the F1.

As far as I can see from the instructions/rules from the marina, we are encouraged to use tenders to access the various exits etc. It seems that they have a control tower to control harbour movements. So it seems to me that we could get out to the restaurants etc easily.

Apparently, we will be issued with 12 "acreditatoins" to get us out of the complex for shopping etc - we will have the folding bikes with us so I am hoping that we can get any extra shopping as we need it - I know where the nearest Mercadona (Supermarket) is anyway.

I imagine that the restaurants will be packed so with the family on board and the other boats in our group, we will probably eat on board.

Maybe but I thought that Valencia had the contract for one more year - might be wrong though.

The GP will switch between Barcelona and Valencia every other year, you should get a real hands on experience being so close to the track.

I've never been to a GP before, but to have that berth close to the track with the comfort of your boat must be truly superb, enjoy... Med boating sounds more attractive again...

I was there that year on the Sunseeker 80 second boat, never been to f1 before and it is a great spot. Make sure you have plenty of hose pipes as not many water points there also electric was a issue when we where there. If you need shopping best to take the dinghy under the bridge to the marina and get the shopping on there. There is only one entrance you can use to get in and out with your passes. And they won't let you bring alcohol in that way.

Wow - thanks
I thought we might be able to get in/out somewhere near the Americas Cup Sheds and I didnt think we would be restricted on the booze.

OK then we will top up on the drink in Sant Carles before we leave.
Liddl are doing a really acceptable gin for 3.99 euros a litre and there are some good wines in our local Mercadonna supermarket for less than 2 euros.
So it might to pay to be fully loaded before we set off!!!

Just opposite on the other side of the quay towards the end there is a VIP club and it's around there that you can get in and out with your passes. Day time no alcohol and at night you can argue with them so its easier to get the cab to drop you off the seaward side of the bridge and bring it that way by rib. Best to take it with you if you can. Don't forget earplugs it's a bit noisy!! And gp2 starts early Sunday there where cars going by at around 8am.

Enjoy it is a great spot especially when the security guard walks round the corner and you hop of the boat and get right up to the fence!!!!
