Can I use my vacuum cleaner from my house on a boat by plugging into the sockets on board? Seems a long shot but it might work?

It's just case of finding a vacuum that's not limited to a paltry 700w and small enough to stow on the boat 🤔

I use a 12v vacuum cleaner, can't remember the brand, but it works well, compact and stows in a locker in its own bag. Plugged into a 12v socket and with a long enough lead to vacuum the whole boat.

Honda version cleaner similar to a "Henry" that the wife discarded . Had it for years & it works just fine.
Are not modern cleaners more likely to use less power in the search for "green energy compliance"?

I use a mains wet and dey vacuum cleaner on my boat.

This is a 1000W limited by my inverter but I do use it from shore power.

I use it not only for vacuuming dust but also any water in the bulge

You need to specify the voltage, and 'power' of the house suction cleaner and the type of plug, and then compare with the voltage and power and plug available on board.

It should be easy. If in doubt, some homework is required.

I use a Dyson…great for all boat needs. But a wet and dry vacuum cleaner also makes a very good bilge pump…especially chasing those last puddles that can’t make it to regular bilge pump….and in an emergency…they can empty your black water tank if that pump fails

I found that when I was hand painting the bilges with 2 pack paint (better than Damboline) by having the vacuum cleaner switched on with the vacuum hose down by where I was painting it took the fumes away so painting was much easier.

Vacuum cleaner hose can also be connected to the dust collection attachment of a sander or wood saw when sanding or cutting wood to reduce any mess and dust

Going by these responses....the vacuum cleaner is the most important piece of equipment on a boat...if your boat doesn’t have the room for one, I suggest you ditch the life raft to make space*

*for anyone who references these pages for advice...don’t do this

If any power tool comes near to being indispensible on my boat it must be the vacuum cleaner.

I can drill, saw, abrade, and polish using hand tools but sucking up debris from inaccessible corners where the dustpan and brush won't go, requires a vacuum cleaner.

😃
