The downside is that it increases the number of charge/discharge cycles, reducing the battery's lifetime.
I think it was Geem or Sea Change aka Kelpie who linked to 'Mainsail' (aka ???) and 15th anniversary of his Lithium bank, Happy 15th Birthday to my LiFePo4 Bank - Cruisers & Sailing Forums. One take away from Mainsail's work is that we don't know what LFP battery life is - there are simply insufficient data points, basically its all too new. It seems we have been extrapolating from LA batteries and Mainsail's experience is saying that underestimates LFP performance, though his is only one data point.
A question then is - is a 15 year life, and no end point yet, acceptable.
Being mocked - I don't mind, I have a thick skin - and in this case I feel a degree of vindication, but don't wallow in my vindication.
There is a developing under utilised resource, solar powered lithium battery banks on yachts - this has been addressed with vehicles, is it so difficult, technically complex, to better use the resource available in yachts retained in a marina?
I might be, I am, influenced by the number of Lithium threads which may not be representative of the opportunity.
