Varnish doesn't last and I like a do a job once and forget. Is there a UV resistant epoxy which I can use instead of varnish?

I vaguely recall that West Systems used to sell an additive to increase UV resistance, much as pigment does. Unfortunately, the term "resistance", rather than proof, points out the crux of the matter. Regardless, it will all eventually break down and crack.

Why not use one of the UV resistant 2 part coatings such as Cetol No7 Plus, or a single pot such as International Woodskin either of which will way outlast conventional varnish, although you will not get a fine gloss finish. Epoxy is not a suitable product for a final coat.

The staining is the quality I am not so keen on - I tried that a few years ago on the woodwork around the hatch and didn't really like it. There's not much teak on the boat, but it does look well when varnished. I think I might just leave it all unfinished and ignore it.

I have just used Woodskin on teak, both solid - around the hatch and the companionway doors and faced ply on the table in my cockpit and it looks fine. Very little stain in it and looks a 100 times better than the scruffy weather worn teak. Used it also on my old wooden boat with lots of mahogany and teak trim. Typically 10 years between major redo. Also used Cetol on a Douglas fir mast that gave a slight yellow tinge.

I use both epoxy and varnish for the best results on external use.
At least 3 coats epoxy, coat on tacky then leave to go hard .
Then hard sand, it will need it as epoxy doesn't paint well.
then at least 3 coats of quality alkyd Varnish.
Lightly sand every 2 years and re varnish

Plank.

I suspect that the term epoxy is used for any 2 pack resin. ie is also used for polyurethane paints and clear finishes. True epoxy resin is no good in UV. Polyurethane is very good in UV. ol'will
