My boat had been retro fitted with a short bowsprite. The orginal forestay with roller reefing fitted to that and another stay fitted from about 3 feet down the mast and to the original bow fitting point.
We susquently have removed the bowsprite and reattached the original forestay to its original fitting at the bow.
This makes the retrofitted stay redundant, it currently serves no purpose.
We removed the bowsprite partly as we found the genoa was to close to the second (inner) stay and would allways foul when tacking.
I note that the redundant stay can be fastened to the sampson post using a shackle over the rod and the stay tensioned using the turnbuckle.
can I utilise this stay by making a more secure fitting to the sampson post and what would I use it for? a storm sail? a second genoa ?
We are currently in Sardinia.
