Urgent - help needed.

I have a boat sitting on a trailer in Dieppe. The French customs are not allowing it to travel to the UK without some form of customs form. The lorry driver seems a little vague on this issue. He thinks I need to fill in some form in the UK, but I have tried in vain to find out what. Meanwhile, the boat is sitting in the quayside in Dieppe.

Any help would be very welcome.

Regrettably not up to speed with forms required since Brexit (simple beforehand, you just needed a T2L which the transport company would provide). Think you need to engage a customs agent to do it for you - you are importing a boat into the UK and VAT will probably be payable unless you qualify for one of the reliefs.

Curious -does this also apply to dinghies and caravans or is it based on length?

I‘d expect it to apply to all goods. That’s how borders work. I remember having to list my phone and camera on a form when the ship was clearing into some places.

I think my solution is going to have to be to have the boat trucked to Cherbourg, put ashore there, and use a delivery crew to bring it back. Tedious.

Cherbourg is a good move. Just mix it with the Fastnet mob & sail home. No one will know the difference either side of the channel.

They ship from France and the owner speaks fluent French.

What about hopping in, casting off the lines and sailing it over? As I recall it wasn't that far from Dieppe to Brighton

What is the VAT status of the vessel and do you have the original invoices? You think the French are causing you problems, wait until you reach this side of La manche.

Interested to hear what paperwork French customs think you need to exit France? Did you ever get a straight answer or is this an excuse being made by the trucking company?
