Unusual build style

As you can see by this pic, I have a serious problem with my new project. A local boatbuilder has walked past many times a day for the past 6 weeks and only yesterday noticed it with a bit of prompting.

1. Does anyone have any idea why she should be constructed in this way?
2. Does anyone have any idea what the builders may have been on at the time, coz i think I may want some. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I don't know what I'm looking at, but it looks to me like the port side of the boat/deck is higher than the starboard side, looking at the base of the cabin top.

So, does it list and they've made it visually level by altering the coach roof?

It is pretty bizarre. Have you started taking measurements?

Used to be that the starborad side was the reponsibiliti of the head shipwright whilst the port his underling....

Yup, it's about 5" lower on the stbd side, inside and out.

The previous owners obviously sunbathed lying across the foredeck, and wanted their heads higher than their feet.

Gave a slopping roof to a house boat, deck slopes one way, cabin top slopes the other, thus avoiding puddles.

Dear, dear, me, Forbsie! What sort of moonshine hooch did the seller ply you with to get you you to take it? I'd stay away from that stuff in future. Is it a trick of the camera angle, or my imagination, or is there more curvature in the starboard gunwale than in the port? You've certainly got your work cut out there, dear lad.

Does the boat list to one side? Looking at the rubbing strakes, it appears to. Is there an equal number of planks up each side.

Ive seen a local bodger at work on his boat.... with a spirit level!!!!

Since the superstructure is too straight and angled, as well as being rotten, everything is coming off so we can hopefully level this off as we go.

She doesn't seem to list although having disposed of the solid woodburner and a chest of drawers from the port side this may make a difference.

You may jest, but it was suggested that she may have been built to go between certain ships where the different heights would be beneficial. I can't see that 5" would make any difference and I think that this anomaly has occurred since leaving the service.

That wouldn't bode well then, coz the starboard side is a mess!

Thanks for all your help, guys. Once the decks and cabin sides are off, I'm sure some answers will show themselves. At thew moment, I just reckon that a large amount of alcohol was consumed during the conversion...which in my book is fair game. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

or pehaps that anchor is too heavy.

Is it Italian? It looks like it was built by the famous father and son duo in Venice. The son was a gondolier and the father was a roofer.
