Unreacted Coppercoat

Strange how these 4 year old threads suddenly spring back to life!

In response to "gadget user", Coppercoat is non-conductive, so it would be a waste of time to use a conductivity meter on it. In fact, we use such meters at Boat Shows to demonstrate the fact that it is non-conductive and safe to use on steel and aluminium craft. This is how we are able to treat super-yachts and other large commercial craft, as well as the thousands of GRP leisure boats discussed here.

In response to "seven spades", the short answer is that levels of fouling (and the type of fouling) will vary from boat to boat, location to location and year to year (no mater what anti-foul is used). A frequently used and fast moving boat kept in a low fouling area is pretty much bound to stay cleaner than an infrequently used, slow moving boat kept in a high fouling area, no matter what anti-foul is used. Consequently when we research the experiences of a cross section of boat owners using one particular anti-foul we obtain a wide spread of responses.

Many of our customers move to Coppercoat because they are in some way dissatisfied with the anti-foul they have tried in the past. Maybe it didn't keep the boat clean enough, or didn't work for long enough, or was poor value for money. But many choose Coppercoat simply because it is easier to pressure-wash away some slime each year than it is to have to go through the whole rigmarole of re-applying more anti-foul paint.

As ever, if you would like to discuss this in greater detail, please feel free to call us on 01258 861059 during usual office hours.

Many thanks to all that have replied for their time and trouble.

I don't know anyone else in the area that has Coppercoat. .....!

My cruiser is in bradwell & i applied coppercoat
Had to haul out after first 10 weeks last year, as the boat was almost unusable, in guernsey where the chap doing it said none of the boats he has washed has worked. However, after that i sailed round uk & immediately after had a haulout to check. The slime was no thicker than the condensation one gets on a car windscreen
Abraded & relaunched this year & whilst better i am still disappointed by high slime build up having only sailed 500 miles so far this year
So i think the answer is to keep moving!!

I have a squib at stone sailing club
Some squibs have coppercoat applied by white marine & my crew did mine with copper tec
All need regular scrubbing but my copper tec hull ( decided to try an alternative product) is significantly better than the coppercoat ones
I think that this is down to my crew ( who helped with the cruiser) is really careful about how these things are carried out
I should have learned 10 years ago when i did my stella with the west systems version
That failed in 6 weeks & all material was replaced by wessex marine foc

Doing my cruiser myself ( 31 ft) cost me £1075-00) so as the performance of copper system is no better than the blakes ocean performer it does save me loads of work each year ( i hope!)& should work out cheaper.
What does concern me is the damage to the gel coat when it was sand blasted. I just hope i do not have problems in the future

Bought my boat last year, over 10 years ago she was treated with Coppercoat but then coated before i bought with self eroding antifouling,
I think to sell.
After talking to Coppercoat I removed the antifouling with 40 grit on electric sander, yes 40 grit. It left a wonderful copper colour which has now gone green and so far this year NO weed
