To bring us back on topic, the Njord Viking has just passed through the straits of Dover and according to her AIS is making for the Firth of Forth at 12.9kts. No sign of the big grey think on Marine Traffic but the Warrior Webcam shows an empty berth.

"Active" warships don't show on Marine Traffic. I sometimes see subs off Gourock, en-route between Faslane & Coulport, and the accompanying vessels show up but not the sub!

Why does PoW have two towers (for want of a better term) but the US aircraft carrier has only one ?
Because the RN carriers are conventionally powered they have funnels...and for survivability they are kept far apart...so they made each funnel into a command centre...the one in front is the bridge for the ship and the one behind is the air traffic tower

First Mate and I popped into POG at Weevil Lane Saturday and a big grey thing was alongside, directly opposite Rat Island.

Thanks for posting that - most helpful. :giggle:
I noticed an hour or so ago that Njord Viking was heading north, off North Berwick, and now see she is bound for Montrose.
  • .@HMSPWLS arrived on the Firth of Forth this morning after transit from Portsmouth and has now passed under the bridges. She will come to anchor awaiting the right tidal conditions to be brought into the basin at Rosyth. Photo: @ArnoldTCat https://t.co/6HWlfPvAev

The move to dock started mid morning and aided by 7 tugs the P.O.W was taken down to the Rosyth channel and then reversed up to the lock gates . Hopefully now on the blocks
