What makes a good story, when it comes to getting out on a Saturday afternoon in the sunshine with a few glasses of something fizzy.

Well if you have a classic motor boat, say a Princess 45 from 1988 and a good memory, it all starts here....

Meet Adam from Global Yachts, one of the more active brokers in the Hamble::encouragement:

In 1988 he sold a New Princess P45 to a Mr. Haines. The boat was subsequently sold to a little Pop Group known as "Kiss".
25 Years later, the boat, named, "Kiss" now belongs to another Mr. Haines who is regularly out in the Solent area. Plenty of work and refurbs have been carried out on the boat making her one of the best examples still active in open water use.

Adam had been talking to this well known character from Motor Boats Monthly, "Nick Burnham": :encouragement:

Who as most of you will know is the 'Boat Test Editor' for MBM.

So here we have our two experts down at Shamrock Quay for the sole purpose of Nick writing an article on a classic motor boat, the Princess P45. I don't want to give anything away but the article will be far more down to earth for more of us as there won't be any 'fairytale' boats needing a 'Hollywood' budget requirement.

Adam had brought Nick and Dave Haines together as Adam knew this boat to be an excellent example and of personal interest to him as he had sold it new.

To get things moving, with a good platform and performance for an intense photo shoot, Nick needed a pursuit craft, a Rib would have been fine, but "What about another Princess?" says Dave. "My mate DC has one and I'm sure he'll be up for it."
Well of course DC was.

"Here he comes now!" (Like the Lone ranger)

Setting off down Southampton Water on fresh bright day Wind gusting to top of 4 and pretty sunny all afternoon.

So, although the Subject matter was the Princess P45. The article will follow soon in MBM and therefore, the best action shots are reserved.
Here she is but just a taster: P45 'Kiss'

Not to mention the, 'Motley crew for the day:

While we having a sedate ride round at a steady 22 knots, the chase boat V42, 'Thalia' had transferred Nick back to 'Kiss' to take a few more action shots of the Princess V42.

How are these?

So all in all a nice way to spend a few hours on the first Saturday to look like we may be getting a Spring sometime soon. Thanks for the show DC, Thalia sounded great as flew past!

Thanks to Adam and Nick for getting it together, I'm looking forward to reading the real thing and also there will be some video attached, all shots were taken by Nick Burnham, but I only have the second string pics. MBM will have the full 8 1/2 yards out soon, April ish, possibly.

BIG thanks to Dave, Sheran and Freddy for the trip and the 'Everful' glass aboard 'Kiss'

There you go, watch this space! :encouragement:

Thanks for that nice tale RR. Sounds like a nice day out with both owners getting some great pictures of their boats. I'll look out for MBM in April.

How comes you are on all these jaunts? I'm thinking of your p95 gig too. Just in right place at right time and Mr Fixer? :D :D

Sometimes, I wonder myself. Can't think of anything profound to say on that one, so I guess I was just in the right place. Still, in this case I thought it was a nice story to share and it was very boaty. :o

Thanks for posting a thoroughly boaty and etertaining post!

I also dealt with Adam on some of our boat search trips earlier. A very professional approach and a patient person.

When I walk past her at shamrock I always take a look at this 45. A very nice model, one of the benchmarks from princess. It's moored next to andy dent 2000 boat, a powles 46.

Hi VP, yes that's right, Andy's berthed between 'Kiss' & 'Houston'.

So that must have been you using channel 69 !!!!! to discuss your manoeuvres on Saturday afternoon

Well, not me personally, I always find Channel 12 more fun! :o

The P45 has always been one of my all time favourites. The article from motorboat & yachting years ago showing them with feet up while cruising in F6 across Portland (I think) always sticks in my mind.
Prices of them now means you get a lot of boat for your money, so long as its been looked after, maintained.
Thanks for posting, and I look forward to the upcoming article in MBM.

Good evening all.

I just thought I'd update this thread to say that the video of our Princess 45 adventure has just gone on line. You can find it here:

Filmed, I might add, by the forum's very own Roger Rat! (Thanks again, Roger).

The magazine carrying the (six page) feature is out toward the end of next week.

Remember this jaunt?
Well, it just happened to make front cover of MBM May issue.

Very nice review by Nick Burnham (Photo - RR :psmug) That's me on the Fly' hiding under the 'Houston' cap.

Very nice classic boat that they've only improved with appearances, all the nautical stuff works the same and is definitely now, well proven.

Congrats to Princess on a very successful popular flybridge. :encouragement:
