Two little notes about Feb\'s YM

one, the anchorage piece seems to imply there's nowhere any good between the Swale and Beaulieu to anchor. I find that hard to believe - anyone like to make suggestions? By the way Pyfleet turns up again as the only anchorage in Essex!

two, JJ's Najad review. I find the prices truly shocking. An inner forestay can be added for £2398. Is this some sort of a joke? Is it gold plated? Lee cloths are £330! A self tacking jib track is £1625. £1625 for a track! Who the hell is this piece aimed at?

But on the positive side - Deadly Dick has managed to drag his weary backside and pen away from the blasted swatchways and has written about pastures new - even if they are only the Broads - things are looking up.

Well, the best part about Feb's YM is that we're in it! The "Heavy Weather Baptism" on page 19 is Tessa and me. Fame at last /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At least, with all the yachting journalists focused on Pyefleet the rest of us can get on enjoying the scores of other places along the Suffolk/Essex coastline with just as much atmosphere - and rather fewer boats.

Is the Hamble the one in between Southampton and Hythe? If so I've been on a Beneteau from the Hamble to Cherbourg. The small Caledonian skipper didn't know where he was and insisted on meeting a lot of reprobates in Cherbourg and getting me drunk. Fray Bentos was taken all round.

It can be a wee bit naughty the channel, eh? Glad you both came through the experience unscathed. It looks to me like the skipper was wisely holding court from under the sprayhood.

Well done - if it's any consolation you are unlikely to experience conditions this bad again for a very long time. Hope it didn't put you off.

This is why the so called AWBs are cheaper, apply the same logic on prices to the other bits!

Did you also see JJ's short test (pages 102/5) on the Jeanneau Sun Magic 44 which mentioned the 'unusually solid build and fit out? Hows about that for a comment! This is a similar boat and age but from different designer to our Sun Legende 41 and they even look very similar under sail. As the article says, in those days the boats in the Jeanneau range were often based on succesful race boats. They had pedigree designers, like Doug Peterson (Sun Legende 41, based on 'Legende' French Admirals Cup team boat), Tony Castro (Sunshine36/38), Phillipe Briand (Sun Fizz 40, Ostar Transat race boat) and Daniel Andrieu (Sun Magic 44, another Admirals Cup boat based on 'Indulgence'). It is nice to see an acknowledgement that these are good boats from that era and I'm not a lone voice in the wilderness!
