Just came back from a holiday on the BVI - had a brilliant time. The boat we chartered had two anchors on an electric windlass. Both were of the same type. Got me thinking.

If I had the chance of fitting two anchors and say that my cruising area was all of Northern Europe and the Med would I choose two different types, (to give maximum flexibility on holding), or two of the same to allow me best possible anchoring in a bad blow or could a careful selection of both give me maximum flexibility satisfying both jobs?

For the sake of argument assume a 56ft, 30 ton boat - 90 meters of chain available on each.

If money were no object, I'd put two of those expensive anchors Hylas sells, cant remember what they are called, but fairly new technology. But failing that, a BIG cqr and a BIG fob type.
