Last year I found my kedge warp hopelessly tangled up with my chain whilst retrieving both anchors after dragging in a bit of a gale in Loch Skiport. After cutting the rope we finally got sorted out but next time I find myself in these conditions I think I will shackle my Delta kedge and 5 mtrs chain to the crown of the CQR and hope for better results. I have never done this before and wonder if anyone knows what the snags of this arrangement are. Maybe there are none, but if so, why does it not get mentioned more often in the books and articles?

It's a superb system in conditions where the pull is in just one direction.
I use tandem anchors when the bottom is covered in weed / kelp, on the theory that if they drag, one anchor will clear a path to allow the other to dig in. This might not be so, but I sleep better with them both down!

Its a great system ihave been anchored in winds over fifty knots and it works real well, the only thing i would suggest is to use dissimilar anchors, Delta/ bruce or Delta/danforth depending on the bottom, the Delta and the cqr are just to similar to each other for my liking. i used a bruceand small fortress together in bayona wind went to 45kts and the following morning when we finally got the anchor to let go, as far as we could tell, the fortress which was shackled to the crown of the bruce had mud five feet up the chain, and the bruce was relatively clean, good system works for me..... keith
