Twin Jubilee Clips or Single Mikalor Supra Clamp?

The only issue I have is that Mikalor seem to have zinc-plated only, but that may be me mis-reading the website.

They do a W2 clamp which has a plated bolt or a W4 with a stainless bolt. They do a W5 with a 316 bolt as well but there's not many people selling them.

As I tend to check them pretty much every time I'm on the boat opening and closing the cock I'm going for the W4 as they won't be under water all the time. I have spares so they can be changed easy enough if needs be but I've not had an issue with my jubilee clips with a zinc screw that were fitted by tge previous owner.

Why does need two ? Of one fails for some reason, then another of the same design and specification is also likely to fail for the same reason (basic risk management stuff).

I've only once had a hose let go. It was an inaccessible end of a cooling hose on the DS, and it went because I forgot to tighten the clamp. If it had been double clipped I'd have forgotten to tighten both of them.

The smallest Mikalor clamp seems to be 16mm - will this be tight enough for 13mm ID water hose?

Get Your Mikalors from your local hydraulics shop. Still 316 but a quarter the price of chandlery offerings.

I suspect that insurance companies do not have views on the matter at all, but they will want to be assured that you've undertaken all the recommendations of your qualified surveyor. So the issue is making sure your surveyor has been briefed as to the very sensible reasons you have consciously chosen a more robust clamp, and why it doesn't need and can't accommodate a second clamp.

I imagine there are some who will refuse to change their habits (and cut and paste recommendations) of a lifetime, but hope most would recognise that there are other ways of doing things, and a diligent and thoughtful owner is probably a better bet for safety the another cheapie clamp.

(A couple of times I've 'negotiated' amendments to surveyor's original reports, and they've been quite happy to change things which they hadn't put a lot of thought into, but which would be much less onerous if clarified or reworded to achieve the same safety benefit another way; scheduled for monitoring rather than immediate complete replacement of a non-critical item; option of removing completely, rather than bolting down solidly, a bit of 'loose' kit; etc.)

Worth flagging that Mikalor is just a brand name, you can get the equivalent of their Supra Clamp from Jubilee too in 304 or 316 stainless see for example:

I think having two jubilee clips stems back to the days when all clips were mild steel and they could rust through unseen,its only fairly recently that the price of stainless fitting has become more reasonable.
