Turbo Advice Please

That was not my doing. I specifically said no to buckets.

On the question of Rydlime I'm sticking to my guns. An undergraduate in Chemistry I can smell snake oil by it's bouquet 5% HCL and some organic dyes.

Ok.

More confused then ever. Turbo man says housing is fine, but recommends new fan as shaft is bent? That plus new seals etc 380+VAT.

I mentioned the new one from turbo-diesel.co.uk and he said "too cheap, must be reman" and he has had problems with them in the past. Listing stuff they don't have and then chasing the parts afterwards. Maybe not surprising he has that view... I got hold of a borg warner agent locally and they can get them for around 620 + VAT but lead time is early May.

turbo-diesel.co.uk say 3 or 4 working days direct from borg warner?

Some difference!

Oddly enough - when I looked up the address for turbo-diesel.co.uk, Google shows a private house! I rang and someone answered the phone with a simple "hello", I had to ask if it was them. Looks well fishy! Turns our that diesel-injectors.uk is also registered at that address.

@Mr Googler, you sure you ordered here before?

Which phone number did you try? Gogle seems to display the phone number for the registered company whereas the website has a number (01473 598895 ) for what is presumably the business? I bought turbos earlier, the year, I'll check who I bought them from later.

Mr Googler is of the well dodgy variety. Take anything he has to say with great caution. You know what they say about birds of a feather.

Then again, I've been to the Vincent motorcycle factory, Polymarine and Castle Marine. I've been to Ekectroquest, Bearing Man and the chap that does Old Rolls Royce coachwork. International names and legends and the thing they have in common? Office in a shed in the back garden. Lets hear it for old Brit artisans!!

The website number?

I've rang a dozen places today and get the standard company, switchboard response. Not these guys...

For sure - just seems odd!

I will pm you the owners mobile number.

might be the same lead time if they haven’t got stock and it has to come direct from Borg Warner. Nothing anyone can do about that. Unlike Brucek.....I only buy OE stuff ???

there address is
DLH Turbo Diesel Limited
Unit 2, 31 Roundwood Road
Ipswich, Suffolk
IP4 4LU
United Kingdom

No it's about right. Only a small turbo. Cheap n cheerful according to Porto. You still have to add VAT to it and buy it again in 3 years. That's the part Porto never gets. Our engines are never much older than 3 years. Not like his tired old lumps. If they saw an EGT they'd wave the white flag and change sides.

That’s expensive, I’ve a good Kad 32 unit here needs just an exhaust housing , shame your not in the uk .

I like the idea of new. Especially if I am shelling out £500 and not getting a new housing.

641 seems almost too good to be true!
The Kad 32 is a different turbo to the 42 it has a different inlet fan and housing , don’t get confused with part numbers on some sites as they are not correct .
The 32 is a different design as it boosts lower down as it has a smaller fan and housing over the 42 because it’s a 4 cylinder engine .

I thought it sounded dear.

I ended up ordering a new one. Part number 5326 988 6497, listed for a TAMD41A and matches the original number stamped in the casing: 838697. The Borg Warner number on the casing is different but I am fairly sure this is the right one.

Hopefully that'll be me good to go!

10-15 years of peace of mind.

I doubt it at least on an outdrive boat. Seen how quickly an exhaust elbow corrodes and it's connected directly to the turbo. If you're chasing max boost 3 years or whatever you're getting away with on the elbow.

My KAD300's are 17 years old. Had the turbo off a while back and it's in great condition, along with the elbow.

The joys of fresh water!
