Turbo Advice Please

The manifold is not threaded. The stud slides up and down through the flange but the nut is stuck on the stud. I So now it's like a bolt, hence plan B, if that makes sense.
Just go for plan B
ie Treat it like a bolt. You wouldn’t think twice about using a bolt for the second time so don’t risk adding further problems by going for the “ perfect” solution which actually gains you nothing.

I assume the stud will come out of the turbo without fuss

Thanks to Mr Googler for the pic which has brought clarity to the problem

That is what I would do too.

For the sake of 5 mins with a Demel......and a £5 for a new stud and nut.....I’d do it properly. They are supposed to be torqued I think and it’s a very important seal with a lot of thermal changes.

New turbo fitted after cutting off the stud.

Interestingly enough the banjo bolt for the coolant return was too small for the new turbo. The original bolt was a smaller diameter on the threaded part. The bolt on the other end of the line at the heat exchanger was the correct fit for the new turbo so I borrowed that from the other engine to complete and run.
