I am thinking of visiting Tunisia next spring on passage to the Eastern Med with a view of checking out the marinas there for overwintering at the end of 2005. Anybody any comments or views as regards Tunisia's attractions for cruising and over wintering.

I have been there a couple of times - one of the best places after Turkey. Met several people who wintered there and enjoyed it - good place to leave a boat for a while as well. The visit to Cartharge is a wonderful day - on the train from Tunis. I went from Malta to Tunisia (hit a tunny net!) then went all the way West almost to Algeria and then to Majorca - did more or less the same in the other direction. Excellent marinas and wonderful harbours.

Sounds like an increasingly interesting stopover. Wouldyou be confident to leave a boat there for the winter months unattended though?

Yes absolutely NO PROBLEM.. the security is very good, there is a police station and a custom office in all marinas and they are looking very carefully at all boats...
