I'll be travelling down to Truro on Wednesday for a customer meeting on the Thursday.. should wrap up lunchtime so hoping to get some time to look around the marina and will be down there Weds evening in the hotel... any good places to visit with a boaty theme or just a recommended eatery to frequent?

many thanks Gary

No marina in Truro, head to Mylor yacht harbour instead (10 to 15 mins away). Custom house quay area in Falmouth.
Food: Miss Peapods Cafe in Penryn, Gylly beach cafe in Falmouth, The Cove at Maenporth beach (a bit pricey, but fine dining). Directions for the Cove... Penryn bypass heading for Falmouth...2nd exit on the anchor roundabout... 300m then straight over the mini roundabout...straight on for 4 miles...opposite the beach

Not really, in Truro.
If you find the big Tesco, the river is to one side and behind it, but if it is low tide it's a swathe of mud !
The Heron pub is a 10 min taxi ride and has a good view over the river, but I dont know what the rather modern decor pub is now like.
Mylor/Falmouth are both 7-12 miles away maybe.

As said Mylor local marina, but on route you have the Norway Inn, ( A39 Perranarworthal 5/10 minutes out of Truro ) very nice food, also the Lemon Arms in Mylor Bridge for pub grub.

More like half an hour!

Try 'The Shed' in Events Square, Falmouth, right next to the National Maritime Museum which is good for a visit. Great food, excellent service, good prices... certainly more reasonable that the Cove or the Gylly Beach Cafe!!!

thanks for the advice guys and sorry for not reading it before setting off:eek: however, looks like I'll be a regular visitor down there for the next 3 months or so, possibly longer... actually stayed in Quintrell Downes on this occasion and drove in to Truro for the meeting in the morning... saw lots of night, hotel room, bar, restaurant in hotel, roads between hotel and meeting and rain / wind on the way home... so need to do better next time:( drove past St Austell though where my old man was born so definitely having a looksee at that place next week (will be down Tues, Weds and possibly Thurs.

5 hour drive each way, ouch:eek:

The tide is in Truro, for maybe an hour, been there a few times by boat, but theres not alot to see. The HM thinks it's wonderfull if some one comes, but dont charge anything.

So you can go up, look at the big roundabout, then bugger off as fast as you can.

There are a few old knackered boats, a bit further down, moored on a sort of beach. Looks like it's some sort of park.

A bit further down there is a village, can't remember it's name, but you can stay afloat Theres a pub and a shop and a little bloke to mend your outboard, well he did mine once.

If you get to Falmouth, try the Chainlocker. Waterside pub, full of memorabillia of AZAB races, boat festvals, old oars and flags etc etc. Reasonable food, good real ale, and a bit of a mecca for visiting crews, the visitors pontoon is immediately outside.
Its only 100m from the maritime museum, and Falmouth in general is closer to Truro than Quintrel Downs, plus a bit easier on the eye.

I'd just keep on driving when you see the St Austell signs............

Take a detour to Charlestown, a few miles away, interesting old port. You'll probably pass through SA, judge for yourself.
