I just bought a Goose neck type lt ,and a lp waterlock,in the instructions they call the waterlock a silencer,is it a silencer or a waterlock??.
The reason i ask is i,ve got no space behind the engine ,the exhaust does a 180 sloping down backwards to a acoustic silencer mounted/supported by a bracket bolted to the engine via the unused engine mountig point,it then does another 180(so were now facing the transom) to the lp waterlock then to the goose neck, out.

sso that,s acoustic,waterlock,gooseneck,out.
Vetus say this:-waterlock,acoustic gooseneck,out, or
waterlock,gooseneck acoustic,out.
I really want to keep the acoustic (quietlife) silencer where it is can anybody see any reason why i shouldn,t???

p.s ant tips on supporting plastic exhust componants via the silly little tags they put on them??

phew!!

The waterlock is also a silencer. It's aim as a waterlock is to stop water in the exhaust pipe running back into the engine. If I've understood the verbal diagram the waterlcok would go where you currently have the acoustic silencer. I have a Vetus waterlock and gooseneck fitted to a volvo 2030 and it's all the silencing I need. I have had one waterlock go - it split at one of the seams - I think because I had it all a bit tight and the vibration from the engine flexible mounts worked it apart.

You will need the water to mix with the exhaust prior to entering the waterlock (sorry if this is obvious); providing this is so replace your acoustic silencer with the waterlock. I was a bit curious about the unused engine mounting point - what sort of engine is this?

Hi,thanks for reply the unused mount is on a ford 2.5 fsd on this engine the rear mounting points are disused in my setup(inboard outdrive) ,there been mounting points for the rear built into the bellhousing.

Yes of course, it's obvious isn't it. Everything on mine is conventional - no I don't mean that now do I - everything is old fashioned so you don't think about the other way of doing things. Still I think the waterlock and gooseneck should do you and thinking about the inboard/outboard setup, I can understand the lack of space. The waterlock is probably a very good idea thinking about the shortness of the actual exhaust run. I'm sure you have the Vetus diagram, I seem to remember it was crucial to get it low enought to do it's job.

Good luck
