Tron 1E 121.5 and 406 EPIRB?

I've bought a yacht with a Jotron 1E EPIRB 121.5Mhz but it needs a new lithium battery at £55. I'm going to buy a new Tron 406MHz EPIRB in any case. Question: Is it worth spending the money on the old one as well?

I would say probably not worth it. The new tron 406 will have a 121.5 homer anyway so do you really need an extra homing beacon? One point to note is that if both are activated once rescue units get on scene it can confuse the Direction Finder so would make finding you more difficult.

Don't dump it. Open up the battery pack and see what's in there. My guess is that you can make a replacement from readily available cells. Did the same with a hand held VHF. Apelco replacement $85. Six rechargeables $18 solder and a little time. Good as new. Don't be another sucker.
