If it gives YOU personally a problem, why not, if in the process of scrutinising (you DO scrutinise don't you?) prospective new members, your suspicions are aroused perhaps you could email for further info before releasing a start ID?

The above is, like any other post here, only a personal opinion
I'm surprised that you feel 75% of the SailingAnarchy crowd post regularly here - as far as I am aware SA is populated largely by the US sailors, and in particular a fairly hard core of race crews. The language on SA would have Kim reaching for his knife in double quick time! They do however have some interesting insights into the racing scene, which is the only reason I visit.
Ah ken rumour hud it he hud ra patio doors 'n 'at, but noo yer sayin' he's got turrets 'n aw? Jings, Claymore Towers richt enuff./forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
Appology accepted - the problem with being cryptic is that people can misunderstand. To further elucidate - it is'nt based in SA, it is SA - approach at your peril - it makes anything that crops here seem like a vicars tea party!
Hooey
Ra Time hes come fer youse tae demonstrate as hoo yer givin'hon' hasnae withered, an stairt shairin yin Superstition wi yer wee pals. Jimi disnae touch ra stuff, but Para'n masel are awfy weel disposed tae a wee libation.
Well I wouldn't want to give you the impression that I am sat here with my eyeballs falling onto the keyboard, heart thudding in anticipation of the kill etc etc. The reality is rather different.
What started as a polite reminder has turned into a marvellous debate but only answer I can give you is that it is worth keeping the forum along broadly defined lines -- all the evidence points towards the fact it works better that way. Hence the odd 'ah em' from my darkened den, nothing more.
Fair do's, but since yer a' aff tae dae yer sailin' thingy soon, ah reckon ye'll be a damn sicht nearer tae ra heaven o' ra paps afore ah will. D'ye no reckon ye could maybe sling yer hook(so tae speak), somewhere's nearby yon pearly gates an pick up a few bottles o' thon fair cratur. Ah'll be in Glesca that weekend mind, but ah'll gladly hing aroon fur yer return, jings, ah may even make it far as Bute. Ye could even gie wan tae Para fur tae bring tae ra Mercury pairty an me 'n Forbsie an BarryH(even though he's English), wull help him in ra necesarry demolishin' o' it.
Wee Jimi will just huv tae dae wi gettin stuck in tae ra froggie plonk, since a decent pint will no be much in evidence ah reckon. That's always assumin' he's no sailin in circles in ra marina, unable tae hold a course lang enuff tae get oot thru ra lock.

If you look at the User list and click on the Date Registered column (twice) the users are listed chronologically.
The number of new users registered is huge. I guess a lot register just to be able to lurk in the Lounge as there are not an enormous amount of new users posting.
A lot of the new users who do post seem perfectly normal, but a lot do ask strange questions, with no pre-amble ("Hi. I'm new here, etc") and then either never re-post in that thread or come back all bolshy. They also invariabley don't fill any details in the Profile. An argument is that if they were required to fill in details they could lie anyway. But it may be that it would put off a few non-genuine people. Of course that may not suit IPC.
The suggestion that real names be used is open to the same abuse. In fact it would lead to a big increase in pseudonyms as many people simply don't want to display their real names for Internet fraud reasons.
I see nothing wrong with Usernames (I wouldn't would I?)
I also cannot see the virute in having been a registered user since the year dot. Even the first user was new at one time.
Re: Trolls and dual IDs - having read the replies !
I find it amazing that anyone wopuld have any real substance to post on this matter ?
Kim as always since year dot - long before xx.xx.2001 as shown on my listing and others .... has always played fair.
Now we have posts about real names, bio's etc. Mmmmmm interesting ... but not really on point ?
Some of us have serious suspicions of dual ID's and of course trolls ... unfortunately - life is life and it will happen .... sooner or later they get found out one way or another ... I support the ban personally - find one - ban 'em completely.
But again that will prove difficult .... take me - I can participate via a multitude of ISP / connections - catching me IF I was to indulge in such childish skullduggery would be extremely difficult.
Go for it Kim .... you do a marvelous job, Keith is keeping his end up as well ... knocks spots of MM forum etc. etc. Well Done.
I am an Anarchist and know what you mean, it can be almost daunting posting there and agree that most people who post here are pussycats and would be mincemeat on that site /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
