What would be the wisdom and constraints in sailing across and returning?
We always prefer Blankenberg. Much the same distance and no offshore banks or harbour restrictions to worry about. Not so good for the navigationally incompetent as you haven't got the flats to aim for.
I have not generally found the entrance to be a problem after the early season dredging, and because I have to leave Titchmarsh at mid-tide or above, we usually arrive there or depart with plenty of water. It can be a problem when arriving from the Roompot or Scheldt though. Sadly, the Ibis bar and its beer list no longer exists.Blankenberge is nice, but the silting of the harbour entrance can be a cause for concern.
Since there is no longer a ferry service operating out of Ostend, the harbour restrictions are few and far between (the occasional dredger of windfarm boat).
The entrance should become less prone to silting. Work on a new western harbour pier is planned to begin in the autumn. Combined with structural works on the beaches west of the entrance, the aim is to reduce the quantity of sand that is deposited in the entrance. We will have to wait and see whether nature will cooperate to get the desired effect.I have not generally found the entrance to be a problem after the early season dredging, and because I have to leave Titchmarsh at mid-tide or above, we usually arrive there or depart with plenty of water. News on BBC website says no quarantine after 6/7 for returnees from some countries - Belgium France and Holland named, amongst others
surely this would be discrimination ??Saw that too.
But they also mention 'travel corridors'.
Not sure if this includes yachts or whether you have to travel via an approved carrier (ferry, plane, Eurotunnel, ... ).

We’re self isolating anyway and plan to continue to do so so, so quarantine is no hardship. Just nice to sail somewhere!Saw that too.
