Well, we were all set to dash off to Cherburg for the weekend with Chris B_4 and SteveE.
After reading the forecast on Friday night, we rang up Chris and came to the decision that it was a No go, with F6/7 predicted on Sunday afternoon, getting there however on Saturday was not a problem with F3/4 predicted.
Anyhoo we dashed off to the boat on Friday night to get ready to go somewhere on Saturday, Ahh, why don't we go to Cherburg early on Saturday Morning and get back in the evening? Afterall the weather looked good. So cast off at 7am on Saturday and set off for Cherburg at 22kt's, Charts,,,,Check!, Almanac,,,,Check!
All is going well and we saw the EC2 buoy go wizzing past us,,, ooh 17 miles to Cherburg, we should be there by 11am then all of a sudden we hit some really rough seas, after plodding on a mile or so at greatly reduced speeds we made the decision to turn around and head back to the Solent just 5 miles from the Breakwater/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif My wind thinghy was saying the wind was Westerly Force 6/7 (Forecast said 3/4?????/forums/images/icons/mad.gif) No1 Spotted the Fast Cat coming out of Cherburg as we were turning round, he followed us all the way back accross the channel but never over took us, Close to the IOW, I called him up and asked what speed he was doing and why, he had done 26kt's all the way accross because of the sea state/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif Crieky!!!!!
Spent Sat night in Puerto Solente before coming back to Chi this evening, saw Jimi going into PS as we were leaving,,,the smell was awful/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Anyway, that was Trip 2 to Cherburg,, Wait for Trip 3 in the next few weeks!

At least I know the engines can run for 9hours non stop with no probs and I still have half a tank of Ribena left/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

We left Cherbourg 9:30 local time Saturday morning and arrived Swanage 11:00 am BST. Really smooth crossing but I was keen to get away as forecast was deteriorating (did not realise by how much!)

We went over on Thursday but that was rough with north easterly against tide.

I never get it right with the covers and end up having to put up windscreen in mid channel after the boat is covered in salt.

Having spent nearly a week over there, we left St. Vaast on friday late pm as weather was set to change, and had superb ride home, although we did stop mid channel to put the covers up when the rain came............along with the biggest super tanker I've ever seen (Hell, where did that come from??) .................but we lived to tell the tale!!

9 hrs at say an average of 25knots, would have taken me 45 hours!!

Thats why Im on the change.

Going to see a Phantom for sale this weekend. 1994 up for £135k. This forum seems to suggest to Knock off 20% of the asking price reading through discussions last week. Ill have to see the condition before i make the offer.

Have sympathy for you - we left Poole on Saturday morning before 0800h for a fishing mark around 5 miles South of Durlston in flat clam conditions.
Wind went from NW2 to West and increased as forecast to a high range 4 but the seas built in couple of hours to the point that we hauled anchor over the slack at 1300 because I considered it could be dangerous to do so once the tide started running hard (even neaps) if the seas increased at all.
Moved into Poole Bay where reduced tide and only 20m of water to anchor in gave us a bouncy but safe session.
And then, by the time we tied up just after 1900, the wind had all but disappeared again!

If it's the P41 at Inwards, then it has been water damaged from a flybridge leak. She will make a nice boat, but will take a little work. Owner accepted around 127 3 weeks ago, but the deal fell through. He also turned down 120, I understand...

Got it in one! Dont mind superficial damage as long as it has no long term affects.

Is it an older style? Still, Its the type of boat Im looking for and within budget. I'm also tempted by the new F34. Im off to the boat show this weekend to spend my pennies.

Does the new F34 come with the glitzy blond?

Its the same old story, do I go smaller but new or get an older but better sea boat.

£130k is just about ok for me to find but if anything big went wrong, Im stuffed.

Its got to be a well kept older boat for me.

as Iain said, I didn't like the look of the engines, either. Too many odd patches of different coloured paint and such like. The missus reckoned the leak didn't look like it had been fixed properly, as well.

That the trouble with these daft taffs .. they just sellotape the leeks where everyone can see them when a few minutes with some epoxy would do the job properly

I know. In the flesh, there's water damage to the woodwork at carpet level, half the light fittings are just holes in the headlining, all the door and cupboard handles were brass finish, but now corroded away to nothing, the leather's a bit grubby (but I don't think as bad as Ian made out), and the window frames choked with green algae. SWMBO said the starboard head was mildewy, too, which is never a good sign.

It's nothing that wouldn't clean up, to be honest, and could all be put right over this winter, but make sure it's reflected in the price. I would however have a full engine survey, and make damn sure the leaking radar arch has been sealed properly.

Motored then had a Sail across to Chbg on Friday night. Got to Chbg on Sat morning 'bout 8 just as tide turned and wind got up to tide assisted F5 so not surprised you found the sea got a bit choppy.
Again for same reasons it was still bouncy with F4/5 in the evening when we left but the wind died away all night and we ended up motoring back to Chi from 3am.
Plenty of spaces in Marina at this time of the year.
