last week went did a 250nm round trip. I think I have finally sorted my engine issues now as boat with a clean bottom now does 30kns, all temp and oil gauges read identical on both engines, very little steam from either exhaust and over the 250 miles we averaged 1.2mpg doing 20kns. Thanks to VP and everyone else who helped last summer with my reluctant port engine.
With the savings made by DIYing the engine (I refused to be beaten by it) I bought a new plotter - an Advansea T56. Based on the old Navman range I believe but redraw is very quick and very easy to use. I admit not quite as good as the the latest Raymarine A7 but it was half the price and the screen is in portrait mode which I prefer on small plotters. The T50 version is nothing like as good- redraw quite slow and screen resolution not great. For a budget or back up plotter I highly recommend it
piccy 1206a is in the Marina at Moriara about half way on our journey. Very pretty little town. SWMBO liked it so much we had to call in again on the return leg to visit a certain shoe shop.
1206b was early morning before we left to go to Valencia which was an easy 3 hour straight run across the imaginatively named bay of Valencia. Saw a few pods of dolphins, sorry no pics not quick enough.
1206c obligatory wake shot near Denia as you can see conditions were hard - next to no wind and 28 degrees. The crew were sorely tested applying sun tan lotion.
1206d has to be an ugly boat contender - @ 80ft catamaran moored up in Juan Carlos Marina. Very odd boat, no rails or fenders, looked like some sort of converted ferry. It's moored just by the office maybe Hurricane can work out what it is on his next visit.
1206e & f some striking architecture in Valencia. No wonder Spain is skint. Very dramatic buildings in a large park with a good aquarium, theatres, planetariums etc, The old town is lovely, spent three days in Valencia wandering about practising my Spanish. Mind you the locals have a different accent from down south and I found it hard to understand some of them.
1206g - back in Moriara for more shoe shopping
Finally an old pic from last spring taken outside the Astondoa factory in Santa Pola. Loads of 80ft + super yachts all parked up for a pre season scrub up. Looked like a very good business for astondoa.
All went well and swmbo even started talking about getting a bigger boat (totally unprompted) - result!
